The highest-flying image of Delicate Arch ever!

In February of this year, Lieutenant Colonel Bob Behnken served as a Mission Specialist on the Space Shuttle Endeavor which delivered the Tranquility module to the International Space Station. Prior to the shuttle mission he requested a small item from Arches National Park, a place that he and his wife (also an astronaut) have a special connection to. Arches National Park provided a couple of the patches CNHA sell in the National Parks.

Saturday, June 12 at 10:00am Lieutenant Colonel Behnken returned to Arches to deliver the patches back to the park.

Getting Married in Moab?

Moab’s National Parks for Weddings and a 2010 Wedding Venue Update

By: Michele Hill
Moab has a number of talented individuals to care for the floral arrangements, create an elaborate cake, play music or tackle the set up of event tents and matters. The charm of Moab cast a spell upon your first visit. Moab beckons to you, now that love has magically sprinkled you and a beloved.
Arches and Canyonlands National Parks have the spacious views of the world laying out before you, a fine metaphor for a couple sealing a future together with the world of possibilities laying ahead for togetherness. A National Park wedding may be restricted by the number of vehicles, but not by endless views of scenery. Typically only two vehicles will be permitted to occupy parking spaces. In Moab, for Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, shuttle companies can be contracted to remedy this condition of the park. A special use permit will be required. Apply for the permit by submitting Form 10-9302 with $55 application fee for wedding. Allow at least 14 days for processing this initial step and about 4 weeks all told. If approved expect to pay an additional $130 for administration costs. This includes two hours of monitoring fees. Understand if additional monitoring will be required by park service as this costs $50 an hour per park service employee. The conditions for a National Park permit are clearly indicated, like throwing rice or seed will be prohibited, etc. There will be no park closures. The general visitor may look on.

Besides Arches and Canyonlands National Parks of Moab, Dead Horse Point State Park is a ubiquitous desert setting worthy of consideration for a wedding too. Like the national parks, a special use permit is required. Fees vary from park to park, however, $10 must accompany the application once you have discussed with the park manager the size, dates and explored the park site for feasibility.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has tracts of unrelenting beauty too. It is necessary to review the Comprehensive Operating Plan, prepare a topographical map indicating proposed use, insure according to BLM’s specified amounts, and fill out Form 2930-1 (Special Recreation Application and Permit). Contact the Moab Field Office early in the planning stages, time required to process is related to the work load at the time and varies. The Bureau of Land Management has enumerable locations to consider for a wedding. Local Moab tour operators render services for remote food service. The tour operators are approved by the South Eastern Utah Health Department, their staff hold Food Handler cards and these companies have unlimited experience in food preparation, ice chest and waste management in the outdoors, conducting food handling without plumbing or electricity.

The hospitality industry in Moab has two riverside resorts, enveloped in canyon scenery, and attentive staff to create a flawless wedding day. For a July or August wedding, seek the alpine climate of the La Sal Mountains to enjoy Whispering Oaks Ranch. Each of these three settings has on-site food service and feature wedding party expertise. Within the city boundaries of Moab, the Aarchway Inn is remarkable. Combine the courtyard with the event lawn and pavilion for a fantastic outdoor wedding. Another approach to marrying in Moab, would be to rent a facility like Canyonlands by Night or Bar-M Chuckwagon. These venues can provide food service for 300 or more guests.

The following unique venues to consider might not be obvious. Three Dogs and a Moose are four sumptuous cottages adjacent to a common garden. The sister property Cali Cochitta has long been an intimate space for wedding celebrations. Cali Cochitta has stylish catering services to add elegance for an endearing wedding. Cali Cochitta caters for Three Dogs and A Moose property too.

Upon inspection of Moab’s Historic Star Hall, the bride and groom will note plenty of parking and a quiet side street of Moab. A congregation of 289 guests with space for three wheel chairs is housed in Star Hall. The stage can be enhanced with amplified sound. Dressing rooms downstairs permit the bride and groom an adequate space to ready for this most prestigious moment. From the dressing rooms, exits outdoors enable them to re-enter this 2009 renovated theater from the front doors and march the aisle up to the altar. No food or drink are allowed in Star Hall, however, adjacent to the hall is the sun court, a colorful landscaped space for a reception.

Moab as a destination wedding offers elegance and style in a tremendous russet setting of stone. Another imaginative metaphor, begin your marriage in a place that is dimensionally solid, just like you, the bride and groom, desire for your relationship, wedding day forward.
